Fire door surveys! Do you really need one? Fire doors are examined in a fire risk assessment and may highlight some small deficiencies. However, this type of inspection is not a thorough look at each door and if there are too many problems with the doors, a general note will be submitted. So if you have concerns about the fire doors or a fire risk assessor has highlighted major issues, a fire door survey should be undertaken.
Fire extinguisher training Covid. With many staff now working at home, this has meant that there not less staff in the workplace. Fire evacuation plans and procedures need to be changed to reflect lower numbers. This will also include checking who has had fire extinguisher training.
Fire doors save lives! All managers understand the need for fire safety, have fire risk assessments, plans and also fire training. However, one of the most common things found on a fire service audit is ineffective fire doors or the misuse of fire doors!
Fire risk assessments how often should they be carried out? All assessments should be looked at least once per year. They should also be looked at if there are changes to the building, layout and also work practices. In addition, a review should be carried out if there are large changes in staff numbers.
Fire training recommend that a consultant carried out the first fire risk assessment. If there are few issues, an in house annual review could be carried out by a competent person. However, if they serious problems, a consultant should carry our the next FRAs so the building achieves safety.
